Overview

Julyssa M. Tavares is an Associate in the Hartford office of Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP. She is a member of the Firm’s Tort and Catastrophic Loss practice section. Her practice focuses on representing corporations and insurers in all aspects of general liability, professional liability and insurance coverage disputes.

Prior to joining Freeman Mathis & Gary, Julyssa practiced at a regional law firm, where she represented individuals and businesses in a wide variety of civil litigation matters, including insurance defense, products liability and toxic tort cases. She also served as a law clerk with the Rhode Island Supreme Court Law Clerk Department, where she clerked for the Honorable Richard A. Licht on the Out County Business Calendar.

Julyssa earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2023. During law school, she served as a Notes and Comments Editor for the Roger Williams University Law Review and externed for the Honorable Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. She also completed a summer internship with the Honorable William E. Smith of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. Julyssa was the recipient of the Clinical Legal Education Association’s Outstanding Externship Student Award in recognition of her excellence in oral advocacy, commitment to client representation and dedication to advancing policy reform.
